A small world!

I'm doing the Hamilton County (Ohio) Fair's newspaper this year. In the
past, another group did it and apparently very little got proofed. Some
stuff listed as being provided (bedding for animal, e.g.) has not been
done for years.

Hopefully, I got the premiums correct. Imagine 14 pages of stuff like this:

19-118 Huck Weaving $4 $3 $2
19-119 Lace Net Darning $4 $3 $2
19-120 Wall Hangings $4 $3 $2
19-121 Clothing $4 $3 $2
19-122 Rugs $4 $3 $2
19-123 Your Choice $4 $3 $2
19-124 Afghan $6 $4 $2

that was done in 8 pt or smaller type! Fortunately, I was able to use
Abbyy Fine Reader to scan the pages. I had to do a little adjusting to
bring it from Word to the paper but overall it averaged about 45 minutes
a page for everything.

Thanks all! For clarification, I work at a fairgrounds. We are a non-profit

which prints our handbook for us started charging us, this project has become
even more of a headache. The paper uses Mac with Quark programming, and we,
of course, use Windows. Finding a cost-effective way of producing this
handbook has been very challenging. Not to mention, finding a way of
producing it so it is CORRECT - we now get only one chance of proofing it
after they have made their mock-up. When it goes back to them, if they do
not catch our corrections, that is the way the handbook is printed. Makes
for some difficult times when fair comes.

I have hopes that this year, with the newspaper saying if we send our proof
as PDF, that things will run more smoothly in that department. Wish me
luck!!! ;-)

JoAnn,

He started out with stating he was having a problem with Primopdf; couldn't
get the dpi to 600. Does Primopdf allow setting the resolution to 600 dpi?

Yes - I just checked. I can actually change it to 4000 dpi. Please note: I
also have Acrobat Pro on my system so I can't be 100% that Primo's abilities
aren't being modified by that. I have Primo on my laptop but it's the old
version, which may be different.

Gee, Mike, our Pickaway County fair isn't nearly as generous. Pickaway County
fair is awful. I was a 4-H advisor for 10 years, as soon as they changed to a
June date I quit. I was a garden advisor, not too many crops are ready to
harvest in June. Kids would buy big red juicy tomatoes, enter them and win, the
judges were so out of touch.

First fair in the state though.

Ah hemmm... I am a SHE, thank you! LOL ;-)

I still cannot find where Primo allows me to change the dpi settings. I'm
waiting on the newspaper to call me back to figure out a way to resolve this.

The other thing that happened, when I save with Primo... I have the page
size set at 11.25 x 12.5 as per the newspaper's instructions. When I saved
the file, the pages were cut off. Apparently, it does not like custom
sizes??? Or, is that something I have to change in my printer settings? I
would not think it would matter, but then (see sig'y!)...

Been there, done that. I'm just tired of, after being here for 9 years,
taking calls complaining about things that are wrong, wrong, wrong in the
handbook. It would irritate me, too, if I drove x amount of miles to see or
enter something that was listed on a specific date, only to find out when I
got here, that there was a typo and it is a different date.

Sorry - Couldn't tell gender by your screen name. :-)

File - Print - Properties - Layout tab - Advanced - Look under graphic.

Like I said, I can't be 100% certain that my settings aren't affected
because I have Acrobat Pro.

Mary,

The Adams County Fair used to be the first one in the state, though it
may have been a tie. I worked for a radio station there and we also
covered another county - Brown. It was the last fair of the year. We
would often have to wear coats and gloves to watch the tractor pulls.

I find myself volunteering to do a lot more. The County would love to
have the grounds to turn into a parking lot or off ramp.
