Default Update Meetings causes meeting cancellation

I have a user that is experiencing some issues with the updating of recurring
meetings in Outlook 2003. When he updates a meeting they receive an update
notice and then a cancellation. The meeting is removed from their calendars
and the update cannot be applied. Has anyone encountered this issue and found
a resolution.

Default Outlook Calendar

I had a problem today where someone thought a meeting was still going ahead which I had sent a cancellation for, as the appointment had not been removed from his Outlook calendar. Has anyone else had this problem?
