Default closing file without saving can you recover edits

I apparently closed a file that I had edited on my thumb drive (j) and now
the edits have disappeared. Is there a way to recover them?

If you haven't saved the changes, they are gone. On a side note, try
avoiding saving directly to a thumb drive. Rather save locally, and then
copy the result. Less chance of data corruption that way.

You should never work from removable media as it can lead to document
corruption - however the basic premise remains. If you close a document
without saving the changes, there is nothing to recover.
