Default Mouse does not work in Word 2007

Whatever view I select in Word 2007, the mouse cannot highlight any word in
my documents nor move the "thumb" in the scroll bar on the right. The mouse
does work fine in the menus at the top of the window though.

Also, the mouse will not make any movement in WORD 2007 WORD OPTIONS: I
cannot move past POPULAR

The driver on the mouse is fine, the mouse works for all other programs with
the exception of Word 2007.

I have tried updating the mouse driver and also tried deleting the Word Data
Registry Key and also tried all of the troubleshooting steps from the
Microsoft kb article 921541 but none of these seems to fix the problem?

Any other ideas?
