Default ".nch" files - what type of file & why auto-exempted by NAV scans?

09/17/05

In the process of adding a folder to be exempted from Norton Anti-Virus
scans, I noticed an exemption already existed for files with the ".nch"
extension - I had not entered the ".nch" extension, so NAV apparently exempts
such files by default.

I tried to discover what type of files end with the ".nch" extension by
checking web sites that provide A-Z lists of extensions, and web sites setup
to run file extension searches specifically, but found no detailed
information. I also ran Google searches using a couple of variations on the
".nch" criteria, but still found nothing worth mentioning. One of the
extension search sites did state the ".nch" extension is associated with
"Outlook Express Folder Files", and therefore comes from Microsoft, but
failed to provide anything additional in the way of details - I then checked
the Microsoft Knowledge Base, but once again, nothing.

Can anyone provide the details on files ending with the ".nch" extension -
and maybe hazard a guess as to why Norton Anti-Virus automatically exempts
".nch" files from virus scans? Thank you - and enjoy your weekend!
