Double Click Won't Open File
Hello,
It used to be, in previous versions of MS Office, that I could double click a file outside of any particular Office program, and the program would open up and display the file. Then I loaded Office 2007. Ever since, when I double click a file, the program will open up but not display the file. I have to open the file up inside the program and then it gives me a message saying that the file is already open and do I want to open a read only version of the file. Is there any way I can restore the old double click functionality like before? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Double Click Won't Open File
Is your anti-virus attempting to scan the file you are opening?

No. I turned it off to check. The actual message I get has to do with asking
me to reopen the file. It says,"(Filename) is already open. Reopening will cause any changes you made to be discarded. Do you want to reopen (filename)". I read another post about a setting in the Tools menu, but there is no Tools menu anymore. Thanks for your help. "Bob I" wrote: Is your anti-virus attempting to scan the file you are opening? I checked it and it was unchecked. I put a check mark in the box and nothing
changed. Exited and re-entered the program, and no change. "Bob I" wrote: Something like "Ignore other applications....."? One last thing I can think of, try enabling an Excel Add-in. Try Solver.

Double Click Won't Open File
Thanks for all your help Bob! It worked.
I was able to trigger a document and it opened up just like it used to. Any idea why? Thanks again! "Bob I" wrote: One last thing I can think of, try enabling an Excel Add-in. Try Solver. Personally? I think Excel is looking for something, and is timing out
waiting for something to happen. Turning on Solver, gets it past that. Now that it works, you can try turning Solver back off, and see if Excel continues to behave. It has continued to work properly in my limited testing after the Add-in was unchecked again. Dave B wrote: Thanks for all your help Bob! It worked. For many turning it off doesn't disable the hooks they have to the Office virus scanning engine. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beth Melton Microsoft Office MVP https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Melton What is a Microsoft MVP? http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/gp/mvpfaqs Guides for the Office 2007 Interface: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/tr...295841033.aspx |
