Default How do I send a distribution list by email?

Still need the other information I asked for: location of this DL and how it
was created.
Also need to know recipient email client.
When you use Insert Item, what do you see next?

Sorry, to my knowledge I am doing it according to all of the instructions,
as
follows:

Open a new message in rich text format.
Address it.
Click the down arrow next to the paper clip and select Item.
Select the distribution list,
Send the message and ask the user to drag and drop it to their Contacts.

I've tried this with two individuals outside my institution and both have
told me all they can see is my contact information.

Thanks.

where the DL resides, and what happens.

This isn't working for me using Outlook 2003. I have made sure I am
using
Rich Text Format. I am using the drop down arrow to select Item next
to
the
paperclip. What can I be doing wrong or what setting can I change?
This
is
very frustrating. Thanks.

It's there.
You did not specify your Outlook version or editor, so I can't tell
you
where.
Did you look beside the attachment icon? (it looks like a paper clip).

I just tried to retrieve this DL from the computer I had sent it to.
No
attachments arrived with the email.

I want to send a distribution list to another email address using
Outlook. The online help suggests going to insert/item. My drop

Create a new message in Rich Text format and drag the DL to it as
an
attachment.

Default How do I send a distribution list by email?

The DL is in my Contacts in Outlook 2003. I created it by clicking on the
down arrow next to New/Distribution List. I selected the names from my
contact list. I have also tried the same thing by Adding the names and
typing their email addresses, and both times both people tell me all they can
see is my contact info.

When I click Insert Item I see my mailbox, double click on Contacts and
select the distribution list that I want to send to my colleague.

I don't know their email clients, but I will find out.

Thanks.

Odd. That procedure has worked for everyone else I know so far. Obviously,
it only works when the recipients are using a similar version of Outlook.
Outlook DL's have no meaning to other email clients.

I'm having the exact same problem---I'm doing everything per the
instructions---sending the DL from a friends computer --she has 2003---we
changed her mailbox to RIch Text.....we're sending it to my puter---I also
changed mine to Rich Text-----I have 2007---does this make a diff? We used
to do this all the time....and I cannot figure out how to get them now. Any
help you can add here would be much apprectiated!! I really NEED these DL's.

Start by posting precise steps used and mail account type. You just force us
to guess when you don't provide requisite information. "I'm doing
everything..." tell us nothing. Tell us what you are doing.

Default How do I send a distribution list by email?

Did this thread ever get resolved ? I have a similar problem. And I have
found a number of inquires on the internet that neve seem to get resolved.

If I send a DL (size about 5 KB) and address it to two people, one inside
the company, and one outside, the message arrives intact with the inside
address. But, is only 775 Bytes (Header only) when it arrives at the outside
address. I have tried multiple outside addresses and all are the same. ALL
recipients are using Outlook 2007. The Exchange server is 2003. The
information is filtered out when it leaves our domain but how is that
controlled ?

What would cause this behaviour ?

Thanks,

Brian Ounsted

Sending it in Rich Text format could cause this behavior.

Of course it has a meaning!? What if they want to create a recipient group
out of a DL or just add them to theiur address book?

There is an export option that says «Export in internet format (vCard)», but
that only returns som crude textfile that is difficult to import for other
email clients.

Any solution to this?

No it doesn't. DL's are a proprietary Outlook Item that can only be used by
other Outlook users. If you want to transmit that information to users of
other email software, you'd have to convert them to another file type. DL's
do not survive exporting.

Thank you! I've been searching for these instructions for quite a while;
easy, but definitely not intuitive. I've tried "Save" and "Save As" with no
luck.

"Matt S" wrote:

I just found the answer to this and tested successfully:

The message recipient simply has to left-click on the attached file, then
drag & drop over to the "contacts" icon. The list is then added to that
persons 'contacts' list.

I was able to email the distribution list successfully via the insert item

be able to use it?
