Add my name to the list with this problem. I am having trouble doing any
type of troubleshooting when it doesn't get very far in the installation.
"Do you wish to proceed with the installation?" - (Yes or No button)
(Selected Yes) - "Extracting files, please wait..." (then) "The
installation of this package failed." -(OK button) (Selected OK) -
Installation ended.

Many attempts. No variation. Have Office XP Media Center edition. Have AV
(Norton), Firewall (Zone Alarm Professional), Antispyware (Windows Defender).
Everything was updated and easily exceed all resource requirements.

I would love to test this, but I guess I have to wait for help on how to
install it.

The notice that appeared prior to your downloading the beta states:
"Beta code is offered "as is", and does NOT include technical support."

Hi JayKay,

Are you using Windows XP Media Center Edition?

See if these steps help,

Assuming this is the first 2007 Office product you're installing, and you're installing on a version of Windows XP (which includes
Media Center)

===========
1. Use Start=Programs=Accessories=Disk Cleanup
clear your Internet files and temp files.

2. Locate your 2007 Office Professional Beta 2
download file and note the folder/path location.

3. Create a new folder on your PC and note that
folder/path location.

4. Use Start=Run , and on a single line type in
the following (using the path & file names from Step 2 & 3)
and leaving out the brackets

"drive:\Step2PathOfDownload\downloadfilename.e xe" /extract:"Step3path"

example: (assuming you saved to a 'downloads' folder and created a new folder named Off2007ProB2CD1) the Start=Run line would look
like this

"c:\downloads\OPPLUS-EN.EXE" /extract:"C:\Off2007ProB2CD1"

If the extraction is successful (you'll get a dialog box telling you it was after a few minutes) then

a. Backup your files and shutdown all other running apps and utilities including antivirus.
b. Run setup from your new 2007 Office system folder you
created in the previous steps

Else, if the extraction doesn't succeed then the download may be damaged/corrupted.
Use Start=Run and type
%temp%
and locate the Setup-xxxxx.log
(file) just created and see if it has any clues on where the extraction failed.

Post back with the results please.

I tried cleaning up my computer by cleaning up my temp files, recycle bin...
This did not seem to work. I redownloaded the installation file and it
worked fine! I am in and reviewing the Beta software.

Some more info for you. Experiencing exactly the same thing here.

If i manually extract, it fails in the same way at the same point as the
execuatble launch.

If i burn the executable to CD and run, it installs fine.

After seeing this i dug out the old XPSP2.exe file to test the extraction,
and this failed half way though. To be safe i did the same process (from the
SP2 CD, not the HDD) and it extracted fine.

Unfortunately, the process of extraction doesn't seem to generate any error
log's in the %temp% dir, only setup error's.

p.s. I'm not using MCE, im on XP Home with a VIA VT8237R chipset and a SATA
HDD. I don't believe this problem existed (or atleast it wasn't reported)
with an IDE drive in the system, but i'm just about to ghost back to an IDE
drive to test this theory.
