Can't Open Jpeg files in OE6
I've been following a thread regarding this issue from May and thought
I had this solved but not! Even since I installed IE 8.0 I can't open jpeg attachments in OE6 emails. I am using Windows XP... SP3 I do have spybot running in the backgrond and have AVG but I have disabled incoming email scans from AVG. I tried deleting all the .tmp files, and for a few days opening jpeg attachments worked. Then it stopped working... So something is telling me its IE 8 causing this. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I can save the jpeg to a folder and open them from the viewer but that is a real pain in the neck. |

What exactly happens when you try to open a Jpeg? Do you get any error
message? If nothing seems to happen, hold down the ALT key and Press the TAB key one or more times to cycle through all open windows to see if it might have opened behind the current window. If the file extension JPG or JPEG? JPG is the more common by JPEG is also used. The Windows File associations considers those to be different file types although they may open in the same application. If you Right click a saved JPG/JPEG, does it offer OPEN (without any additional words) as one of the actions? If not, try the following to create an OPEN action: Identifying Attachment File Types and Setting File Associations section of Decoding Internet Attachments - A Tutorial http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...e.htm#identify -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Billy-B" wrote in message ... Can you open other attachments, just not JPG/JPEG attachments?
Did you disable AVG and Spybot Residents SDHelper & Tea Timer and de-Immunize Spybot prior to installing IE8? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 Billy-B wrote: I've been following a thread regarding this issue from May and thought I had this solved but not! I have windows XP set to automatically install critical updates, and apparently MSoft considered IE8 critical. My mistake. Bill -- |

You need to uninstall AVG, then do a custom install, choosing not to install the email scanner. Then see what happens. |

Why not? I did that initially (on AVG Free) after reading the advice here.
All disabling e-mail scanning did was to show an error msg. Later, in connection with other issues I reinstalled AVG using the custom route and omitted e-mail scanning. I don't think I ever had a problem because of the scanning, though. I just disabled it preemptively because of the strong feelings about it by the specialists. My system is XP SP3. Reinstall AVG and choose Custom Mode. Uncheck E-mail Scanning when you see
that option. Just unchecking it in the AVG Security Center usually causes a conflict with the Windows Security Center. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "Dori A Schmetterling" wrote in message ...
