This is a tough one!!!!

Working in VISIO Standard flowcharting, how does one create a tie-in between text in the Text Block and the Custom Properties, both for the same Shape? Display the Custom Property as the real-time text in the Text Block, or update the Custom Property from changes made to the Text Block. I see no way to get at that text as a field - the value of that text is not even in the Shape Sheet, despite the fact that every other aspect about that text is in there (postion, font, blah blah blah).

You can display your Custom Properties as shape text (in that shape's text block) by adding a Custom Properties text field.

Add your Custom Property to the shape, then go Insert | Text Field. In the Field dialog, choose Category = Custom Properties, select the Custom Property you want to display, and choose a Format. (Note that not all Format options are applicable to all Custom Properties data types...). OK the dialog and the Custom Property will display as shape text. You can have multiple text fields per shape, and the text fields can be in-line with "normal" text.

Visio text fields are not editable so you can't select the text field and start typing and edit the value of the Custom Property. However, you can use the Custom Properties Window (View | Custom Properties Window) to easily edit the Custom Properties. After you bring up this window, the shape's Custom Properties are displayed in it when you select a shape. If you edit a Custom Property in this window, the text field is also updated.
