OE6 w/windows xp home edition....." Rare box " scenario: email sent, spell
check enabled. windows installer box opens and " windows installing" shown.
weather a word is wrong or right this box opens. If word is wrong it works
right and if all is okay box closes itself and email sent off. This "rare
box" never opens itself for any other application etc..

OE does not include its own spell checker but depends on Proofing tools
installed as components of MS Word, Excel or PowerPoint (usually). Running
spell check's also been known to invoke the installer for, e.g., PictureIt
(but the KB article about this has been pulled). Which of these
applications are installed, Michael?

Of the applications you've listed, OE could be using Proofing tools
associated with either MS Word 2003 (part of Office 2003 Student/Teacher
Edition) or MS Word 97 (part of MS Works 4.5, AKA MS Works Suite 99).

Assuming you have your Office 2003 CD handy*, try uninstalling MS Works 4.5
via Add/Remove Programs then reboot. Now go to Office Update and maker sure
Office 2003 is fully patched:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/do...incatalog.aspx

====================
* You may find that you'll need to either run a Repair of or Reinstall
Office 2003.

PS: Setting up Outlook Express to access Microsoft newsgroups via the free
MS newsserver (and by-passing WindowsKB forum entirely)

Looks amazingly similar to the garbage paragraphs appended to spam
e-mail in a vain attempt to poison or confuse Bayes filters.
