How to automatically set up the MS Fax Transport
THE PROBLEM:
How to set up using the fax transport using a .PRF profile file. THE ENVIRONMENT: Windows XPSP2 Outlook 2003 SP1 OL.PRF configured for Exchange with home server and %username%, and Fax Transport. Modem is Best Data 56K. Installed and tests OK. THE RESULT: New user logs in and runs Outlook 2003. System automatically sets up Exchange Profile OK. However Fax Transport does not set up. Each user has to manually set up the fax transport via the Mail icon on the Control Panel. Once done, faxing from Outlook works OK. Can anyone advise how to automate the fax transport setup via the PRF file? TIA Karl from Oz |

I'd ask in an Exchange group, not here.

Russ, you are wrong. This is not an Exchange problem.
This is an Outlook fax problem concerning setting up the fax transport using a PRF file. PRF files have in them paramaters that allow the various transports to be configured automatically upon the first time running of Outlook. By rights, there should be a set of parameters for the fax transport that can be incorporated into the PRF file. The parameters would mirror some or all of the checkboxes, etc, that appear when you hit the Change button under the Mail settings in Control Panel. I was hoping that you might be more helpful and less dismissive. If you don't know, say so. It is not acceptable to handball people seeking advice off to another NG that is not correct. I have observed through the posts in this NG a persistent arrogance on your part that is not in the spirit of what usenet is all about. If you want the MVP tag then live up to it. Otherwise if you are too busy, get out and let someone with a greater community spirit step in and assist posters in this NG. Now, would you like to redeem yourself and offer a useful suggestion as to how this problem might be solved? "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... BZZZT! Wrong - setting up the EXCHANGE profile to include the fax transport
is ABSOLUTELY an Exchange problem, not solved here in an Outlook group. If you don't recognize the difference, I then understand your stance. Setting up profiles for Outlook using Exchange involves both the Office Resource Kit and Exchange setup. Re-check your options in the Office Resource Kit to ensure you are using the correct switches/parameters. -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without reading. After furious head scratching, Karl Middleton asked: | Russ, you are wrong. This newsgroup was created to provide support for those fax products
provided by Microsoft for integration with Outlook in the standalone environment (Microsoft Fax, WinFax SE, Windows 2000 Personal Fax and Windows XP Fax). It simply is not frequented by those who use enterprise fax products, Exchange, and PRF files. Accordingly, I simply redirected you to a group that is so you would be more likely to get an answer. I'm amazed that doing so qualifies as "arrogant and dismissive." But thanks for sharing your opinion. Sure makes my day. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Karl Middleton" wrote in message ...
