Default Word should allow Japanese addresses to follow the same format as.

When I do a mail merge with Word 2003 I have formatting issues with foreign
addresses, especially Japan/Asia addresses. Word will put the addresses in
upside down. This is completely frustrating since I have had to do several
mail merges with domestic and oversees addresses coming from the same excel
spreadsheet.

Any suggestions about how to over-ride this formatting?

Are you using an ADDESSBLOCK field to insert the fields? If so, I would try
using individual fields to do that instead. Unfortunately, dealing with
international addresses is not particularly easy in Word unless you already
have the address in exactly the format you need for the merge. i.e. if you
only have the separate parts Street, City, Postcode, Country etc. then you
also need to use different layouts for different countries (as you probably
already know) and that is a non-trivial exercise in Word.

How I used to deal with this (although it was a slightly different
situation) was to use an Excel macro to take the various address components
(Street, City etc.) and use an "address pattern" for each country to create
the address in the format I needed to print. Then I would only need a single
field in Word to insert it. However, there are other possibilities.
