Default When changing to the Contacts folder, the 1st iame is not highligh

Using Office 2003, when I change from any Outlook folder to the Contacts
folder, the 1st name in the folder is not highlighted. Before moving to the
contact of my choice by entering letters of the last name, I have to first
click/highlight a contact. However, on my other desktop and notebook, the
1st name is highlighted automatically after the Contacts folder opens. How
can I fix this problem? Thanks.

How attached arfe you to the "Outlook Today" view? See if turning off the
"Outlook Today" view for your root folder fixes this.

Russ, your suggestion of turning off Outlook Today as the startup folder
solved the problem. I also tested this on a second desktop. Thanks.
