Default What are these lines

I am helping a friend with a word document, and somehow a couple of lines
have got onto the page, and we don't know what they are or how to get rid of
them. When you put the cursor over the lines, a symbol shows up indicating
that the lines can be dragged up or down (2 short parallel lines with up
and down arrows above and below). Can anyone please help me with what these
lines are and how to get rid of them. I have spent ages trying to work it
out without success. I have attached an example .doc file if you want to see
exactly what I am talking about.

Paragraph borders. Select the lines, then go to Format Borders and
Shading. Under the Borders tab select None. and you're done.

These are border lines. To get rid of them, select Borders and Shading
on the Format menu. On the Borders tab, click None, and then click OK.
