Default Mail only sends after repeated attempts from Outbox

For no apart reason, last week my email stopped sending, just began sitting
in the Outbox (Office 2007/VISTA). I found thru trial and error that if I
clicked again on that mail in the Outbox, tried to send again, it eventually
would go. May have something to do with the date - the problem mail is in the
"none" category. However, I do have all the right check boxes selected in
options.

If you have an antivirus program configured to scan email, uninstall it and
reinstall it without the mail scanning feature to see if that helps.
