Default Upgrade Works to Office Standard for Vista Does Not Work

I went back to the Geek Squad at Best Buy to get Microsoft Office for Vista,
where I bought my new Dell laptop with Vista and Microsoft Works. They said
that Works was a qualifying product that would permit the upgrade to Office
Standard 2007, which they pulled off the shelf and assured me was the correct
version. I typed the product key in correctly, but a message said the
installation manager could not find any eligible products resident on the
computer to use the Office Standard 2007for Vista. Who is the geek in this
situation?

Not sure what version, but the computer is only two months old so whatever
version of works came with the Dell Inspiron with Vista would be the Works
version.

I should have been clearer. I simply want to install Office Standard on a
computer that did not have any version of Office -- just Works, which I was
told was a qualifying product that allowed for installation of Office
Stanard. Hope this helps.

The version of Works installed requires an update/patch in order that the
Office upgrade recognises it - its a recognised problem/bug

Can you direct me to the patch by name or location so I can grab it and
download it? Thanks!

The link was contained in an earlier response to your Q from Mary Sauer, but
obviously you missed it.
