Try compacting your folders. If that doesn't solve it, post the *entire*
error message.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: FileWork Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status
Bar).
FileFolderCompact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting
is completed.

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually
become corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing
mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder
regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as
empty as is feasible.

The Inbox may be damaged.

ToolsOptionsMaintenanceStore folder will reveal the location
of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then StartRunCtrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise,
write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WindowsXP & 2K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under StartControl PanelFolder
OptionsView.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in
question {Inbox.dbx} and rename it to Inboxold.dbx. A new,
empty Inbox will be created automatically when you open OE.

You will need a tool to retrieve the messages.

DBXtract: {Cost: $5.00}
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx

DBXpress: {$24.95, but much faster for large files}
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx

If you do not care about saving any mail, just delete the Inbox.dbx file
rather than rename it.

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually
become corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing
mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly.

***After*** you have retrieved the old mail, follow up by compacting
your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: FileWork Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). FileFolderCompact all folders. Don't touch anything until the
compacting is completed.

In ToolsOptionsMaintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background
and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

Agreed but we have seen this POP3 (incoming) message when Outbox.dbx was
damaged. I'd try closing OE and deleting it first, jhow66, before messing
around with your Inbox. You never know!

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

In this situation advise try-dbx corrupt,as far as i know utility is free, tool has many features, software permits to unpack dbx files, where Outlook Express keeps your messages and to retrieve separate files in eml format, that can be restored without errors, program is compatible with Windows Me, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista, program is working in a batch mode and this tool processes very large dbx files, it is better to launch this program on more efficient workstations for fixing Outlook Express corrupted dbx files and Outlook Express dbx corrupt, all emails will be retrieved separately, users can open these files with any email client, compatible with Outlook Express.
