Rremoving the Title, Revision and Doc Number from the TOC, how?
Hello all,
I am creating a work document and having problems getting the TOC to display how I want it to. When I insert a new TOC at the beginning it is displaying the Document Title, Document Number and Revision fields. How do I prevent Word from inserting these fields into the TOC? The fields have the following Style and Formating names. Title - Title Document Number - Subtitle Revision - Subtitle These fields are listed on the first page of the document and repeated within the footers. I do not want these descriptions showing up in the TOC, how do I prevent Word XP from using them in the TOC??? Thanks Mark |

It sounds like they must have one of the Heading styles attached to them
that are use to build the table of contents, You will need to apply a different style to them to prevent them appearing in the TOC. -- Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the benefit of others who may be interested. Rremoving the Title, Revision and Doc Number from the TOC, how?
The Title and Subtitle styles by default have outline levels of 1 and 2,
which means that they are automatically included in a TOC that includes those levels. There are two ways to go about changing this. 1. In the Table of Contents Options dialog, remove the numbers beside the Title and Subtitle styles. This will work for the specific TOC, but if you have to rebuild the TOC, you'll have to do it over again. 2. Modify the styles themselves. Go to Format | Style, click Modify..., then choose Format | Paragraph and change the outline level to Body Text. Alternatively, you can do this for the individual Title and Subtitle paragraphs. -- Suzanne S. Hello,
I am not exactly sure if this is what you are referring to, but I think so. If I go to the Format - Styles and Formating... which brings up the new window attached to the right hand side of work, I find the Style 'Title' then select modify.. The style attached to "Title" is the following... Name: Title Style type: Paragraph (grayed out) Style based on: Normal Style for following paragraphs: Title Normal + Font: Arial, 16pt, Bold, Kern at 14pt, Centered, Space Befo 12pt, After: 3pt, Level 1 The style attached to "Subtitle" is the following... Name: Subtitle Style type: Paragraph (grayed out) Style based on: Normal Style for following paragraphs: Subtitle Normal + Font: Arial, 12pt, Centered, Space After: 3pt, Level 2 What part of the style do I need to change? I am not quite sure. Thanks for any help.. Mark "Doug Robbins - Word MVP" wrote in message ... You need to change the outline level (Format | Paragraph).
