Default Hyperlink failure if powerpoint is saved to network share

Using PowerPoint 2002, a slide contains a hyperlink to a
file on a network share. The slideshow works properly
until the powerpoint file itself is saved to a network
share. This changes the hyperlink text to include ../ at
the begining of the URL. Also all \ characters are
changed to /.

The resulting error states that "THE ADDRESS OF THE SITE
IS NOT VALID" when you try to view the file indicated in
the hyperlink.

If this same presentation file is saved to a local hard
drive, the link is automatically corrected back to the
original file location in the hyperlink. It will now
work.

Please let me know if you confirm the same problem and
find a fix for it.

You'll want to read through the following to fully understand this behavior and
adapt your methods:

Sounds/Movies don't play, images disappear or links break when I move or email a
presentation
