I am trying to print invitations, five per 10x20 sheet. I have created a
custom size 10X20. print layout will be fine, landscape, five per, custom
size but when select print command it automatically prints as 8.5 x11 even
when print preview looks good. this results in cutoff images and a lot of
wasted paper. any ideas???

Just a thought...

Your project is 10x20...but are your
Printer preferences set to 10x20?

On your print screen...try going to
Properties / Advanced / Paper Size
