Default Sumif multiple criteria?

ok, I am using sumif to add columns with particular names next to them, but I
am selecting the names from a dropdown list

A1 B1 C1 D1 E1 F1
amount Name Reason (selectN) (selectR) £
£24 smith 56 X X =?

So I'm using Sumif to total all of "smiths" Sales in one cell, but I want to
Add all of his sales for one reason code
is there a way to use sumif with more than one criterion?

No, but you can use SUMPRODUCT

=SUMPRODUCT(--(B2:B200="smith"),--(C2:C200=56),A2:A200)

Note that SUMPRODUCT doesn't work with complete columns, you have to specify
a range.

so, will that only add up totals in column A if a) the name is "smith", and
b) the reason code is "56"?
