Default Cannot update Outlook 2003 update

I can download the latest update to Outlook 2003 (Office Pro2003) for the
junk mail update but it won't install. I have followed all of the
instructions on the possible fixes, including editing the registry (it enters
the download path for Office/Outlook2003 installation), but nothing works.

I don't think the problem is with the download path, as it wasn't wrong. I
have full administrative access, have all other Office updates, have plenty
of disk space. So I'm perplexed. What's next?

I get a msg: "installation unsuccessful" then it gives me a page of possible
solutions, which I tried--all of them. Same thing occurs. I'm in a loop.
Very frustrating.

No, but I fixed the problem. The error message was incomplete. I used the
"fix and repair", then got another error--this time with an error number
25090 and a system error 2147023838. I followed the instructions and found
that the source engine was turned off. I turned it back on, and BINGO!
everything worked.

It turns out that without the source engine turned on, no update will work.
(What would cause it to be turned off?)

I don't understand why I wasn't given that answer and another possiblity.
It would have saved me a bunch of time!

By the way, your answer on "ghost" emails was very good, and I also
corrected that problem.

Regards,
