Default Shared DL's - With External Addresses

Hi,

Currently running a Notes to Exchange project.

In Notes today users share DL's that are managed centrally, these DL's have
External email recipients, these are also hidden centrally.

The issue I have is users want the same like for like functionality within
Outlook.

Any options? Shared contacts looks fine but what happens with the users
accessing the shared contacts list IF the original owners mailbox is deleted?

I prefer Public Folders to sharing Contacts.
