Importing .dbx files into OE6 - How?
These .dbx files are mail messages in folders that I
copied from my old computer. Want to move them to my new computer. The .dbx files are not read-only and are not located in the OE store root folder. When I click File| Import and Export, I get the Wizard. No choice for .dbx, so I select on Import Internet Mail and Addresses. I click Next, then select Outlook Express 4.x, 5 and select Import Mail, Import Address book. Click Next. I then get a box about the Address Book/Contacts. I then click Next. I get Import Internet Mail Summary box. It imports one file -- the Welcome to Outlook Express message! I never get a chance to browse to a location or select the .dbx files. I have also tried storing the .dbx files in the store file as indicated in the File| Data File Management menu choice. This also did not work. HELP!! Thank you. |

If you are clicking on FileImport and Export (as one line command), then you are trying to import via Internet Explorer ((or possibly another program (may be Outlook, I don't know as I do not use Outlook)) and *not* Outlook Express. Outlook Express under "File" does not have Import and Export as a one line command, they are separate listings. -- Kath Adams MS MVP - Windows (IE/OE) wrote: Yes, the Folders.dbx is in the list of folders. OK, maybe the problem is that I am trying to import.dbx
files from Outlook Express (old computer) into MS Outlook 6 (new computer). So, I went to the Microsoft site to download MS Internet Explorer which contains Outlook Express. But I cannot do it. The wizard displays the message "There is a newer version of Internet Explorer detected" and will not download. If I remove my current version of Internet Explorer, how could I have internet access to download the (old) version with Outlook Express? Oh, my. Any suggestions?? -----Original Message----- If you are clicking on FileImport and Export (as one line command), then you are trying to import via Internet Explorer ((or possibly another program (may be Outlook, I don't know as I do not use Outlook)) and *not* Outlook Express. Again, don't understand why you would want to remove IE. You would have internet access even if you did remove it. IE is a browser. There are others available. I would suggest you just leave it as it is. You're not having problems with IE? Oh, my. Any suggestions?? If you are indeed trying to import into Outlook (and not Outlook Express) then you would be better posting in an Outlook newsgroup? Well, I didn't think so, but did not check.
And why has this "problem" with IE cropped up in the meantime? Who knows now? :-) Kath Steve Cochran wrote: Its not clear if its Outlook or OE. Further.... I believe it MUST be Outlook he's trying to import to.
The wording - "Import Summary", "Import Internet Mail and Addresses" and "Outlook Express 4.x, 5" appears in Outlook. Kath Kath Adams wrote: Well, I didn't think so, but did not check.
