Default Changing default text box settings

I have Word 2000. I'm working on a project that will require a LOT of text boxes. When I draw a text box, I want it to automatically have certain settings. For instance, currently the defaults seem to be:

Line color: Black
Layout: In front of text
Internal margins: .1" left & right, .05" top & bottom

What I would like in every text box I create is:

Line color: No line
Layout: Square
Internal margins: 0" all

I can't determine WHERE I go to change the default settings, although I have a strong hunch that the settings are stored in normal.dot. I also seem to remember that at one time the default layout was in fact "square", so I think that I or a co-worker must have changed it at some point, accidentally or intentionally.

Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure about Word 2000, but in Word 2002 once you get the text box
formatted as you like, left click once on the text box to select it,
then right click on an edge of the text box, and left click on Set
AutoShape Defaults.

Why not simply save a formatted text box as an autotext item which will make
it simple to insert similar items.
If a table would work, use that instead.

Note that the text box defaults is set for the current document, only.
If you want to save the settings for future use, you can "Set
AutoShape Defaults" for a text box in a template file, and use that
template.

And also be very aware that the defaults are for *all* AutoShapes, not just
text boxes. If you set your text boxes for No Line and No Fill, then you'll
need to remember what you've done the next time you try to draw a circle or
rectangle and it disappears as soon as you let go of it!

Good point. Maybe creating an AutoText entry, as suggested by Graham
Mayor, is the best approach, after all.
