attachments show in two different places?

I have two laptops systems both running XP and Office 2007. When I attach an
Excel file to an email, it shows the attachment just below the "subject" line
ob one system and in the body of the email on the other.

Why and does it matter?

+1 on this. It seems to happen randomly as well.

I can tell you whether or not it matters though. The receiver will be able
to open the file regardless of which position it is in.

The one with the attachment in the body of the email is using Rich Text
Format as email format. It doesn't matter if you only send to Outlook
users - however if you send to NON-Outlook users, they won't be able to see
the attachment in Rich Text mail format.

Not at all. Only if the recipient is using Outlook....

Are you viewing the same piece of mail in the same mailbox on both systems?
Under the subject line = plain text or HTML message format, in the body =
RTF message format.

In addition to what Gordon has advised, when using rich text, if the
recipient can actually see the attachment it's arrived as a winmail.dat file
which they can't open.

Rich Text format is specific to Outlook so only Outlook can read it
properly.
