Default Live Communications Server 2003 Install error

Installing LCS/trial in a domain member server running Windows 2003 server in a domain with two windows 2000 domain controllers...

I am logged on with an account that is a Domain Admin but get the following dialog:

Error checking the membership of the current user in DomainAdmins group. Please check the domain is accessible.

The domain appears fully accessible and I am able to fully administer the computer in question and access domain resources (like DFS) w/o any problem.
