Outlook 2003 startup problem
I recently wanted to go back to 2003 after trying out 2007 for a while.
After reinstalling outlook 2003 and then deleting 2007 I cannot start 2003. The first screen message is the standard reporting screen "Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close" after the frames come up but with not much detail and they are not accessible. It then asks if you would like to start in "Safe Mode" which then results in the error "Cannot Start Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. the set of folders could not be opened...." I have tried to rename the MSMAPI32.DLL and the the MAPI32.DLL file is still the same. Thanks for the responses yesterday but I am still sitting with the same problem..... Any help will be awesome... Paul P.S. I have created a new account profile and that didn't help.... |

Outlook 2003 startup problem
You need to uninstall all versions of Office, clear temp files & reboot
prior to installing your paid for version Then if you still get an err msg, post the *Exact msg* "PaulJB" wrote in message ... I recently wanted to go back to 2003 after trying out 2007 for a while. Thanks for that
Sorry, When you say "clear temp files" could you be a little more specific and give me step by step instructions, I am a little challenged in that regard... Outlook 2003 startup problem
I tried your suggestion and unfortunately had the same result!
Another error on the reboot was Title bar -"WindowsSearch.EXE Unable to locate component" Then in the text block "This application has failed to start because MAPI32.DLL was not found" The MAPI.DLL file is there in C/Program Files/Common Files/System/MAPI/1033 "DL" wrote: Disk Cleanup, see win tools/help "PaulJB" wrote in message ... Outlook 2003 startup problem
I had the same problem on a customers machine. I deinstalled completly office
2002 and installed office 2003 - no change, outlook still crashed on startup. I searched a lot on the web but nothing helped (i created a new profile...no change). I had to find a solution for that and here is what solved the problem: search for a file (it is hidden, you have to enable "search for hidden files") named "outcmd.dat". move ALL files in the found directory to a backup place. start outlook, it started without crashing! wow. outlook will create the file it needs again. maybe this will help for you.
