Office 2000 Product Key
Most likely what it's showing is the product ID, which looks something
like this: 50106-009-2448145-02644. That's the same thing you see if you open one of the Office programs and go to Help | About. That's quite different from the product key, which looks like this: FVYYC-YV9LC-FDM22-24J7D-LKSQ6. JD wrote: It does on mine. Office 2000 Product Key
I agree with that.
Belarc shows the product ID for me but does not show the product key. ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/index.html In microsoft.public.office.misc, Gary Smith wrote: Most likely what it's showing is the product ID, which looks something like this: 50106-009-2448145-02644. Office 2000 Product Key
Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies, very much appreciate it. At least I know that it is not possible and to carry on the audit without this information. It does indeed seem strange that i can access the Office XP keys and all versions prior to 2000, but that is life I guess Just to say, to anyone who suspects it, I am not a software pirate, I genuinely do need this information simply to check our licenses are all correct (if I wanted a number there are much easier ways to get it!). The problem we have is our company is spread over three sites, and I am responsible for them all, and if a computer goes wrong I will normally just swap out the machine with a spare. The old machine is then taken to my base and repaired, at which time another machine will need fixing and the machine on my desk may be swapped with the latest duff one, sometimes by the other IT guy here, and so our allocation forms end up out of date after a while (we have the names of the users together with their hardware and software information kept in the safe). I am simply trying to update this information. Hopefully most of it is correct, but after several years of "fire fighting" situations where people desperately need work doing, sometimes things get a little mixed up! Anyway, thanks for the comments, hope I can be of help to you lot someday! Richard "Bob I" wrote: I suspect that "piracy checks" are the reason for having it available after the install is complete. Gary Smith wrote: It is strange, though, that the product key was written to to registry in versions before Office 2000 and then again in versions after 2000, although now encrypted. If the key isn't needed after installation, why store it at all? Alan Edwards wrote: I suspect 2), though 1) is certainly possible. I kept an install log of Office 2000 and cannot see any Registry entry that looks helpful and I also see no reason why the key should be recorded anywhere after installation. ...Alan |
