I'm a new user to Excel 2000. Unlike Excel 97, 2000 generates a new window every time a new document is open. Is there a macro, as I discovered for Word, which will keep all the open documents in a single window in Excel 2000?

Jerry,

Go to the Tools menu, choose Options, then the View tab. There,
uncheck the "Windows in taskbar" setting.

I've unchecked "Windows in taskbar," but Excel is till spawning new windows. Do I
need to reboot my PC for this change to take effect?

Ok, Chip, it does work, when I open docs from the File Folder Icon, but not when I open
documents that are attached to email messages. Now that I know how this works, I
can work with it. Thanks for your help.

Sometimes one of these works:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

--- or ---

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.
