Default Hyperlinking with protection

I've got a Word 97 document that has many hyperlinks contained within it. If I apply protection to an area that I am hyperlinking to, when executed, you are taken to the closest unprotected area beneath the protected area. Is there any way around this so that the person is directed to the exact area I have established.

No, because you can't select text in a protected area. (At least, I suspect
that is the reason; I know you can't do it.)

Actually you will be taken to the next formfield if there are any formfields
following your bookmark, otherwise to the top of the document. If your
bookmark is in an unprotected section, you will be taken to the bookmark.

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." For more
about online forms, follow the links at

Chapman's series of articles.

Hope this helps,
