Yes, I can see the dbx files now. There are 3 identities, each with its set
of dbx files. Two have 7 dbx files each, and one has 15 dbx files; the latter must be my main email identity. Tried copy and paste the folder.dbx from the one of the identities into a Windows folder and didn't work. Did move mean delete it from the identity folder? Confused as to next step. Then you need to reinstall. There's no other thing that can fix it.
See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#5 steve "Psyberwolf" wrote in message ... UPDATE: I deleted the identity subkey within the Identities folder and I am still getting the starting up errors that I described originally. Errors galore when starting OE
The process looks a little scary, especially if it goes to the registry
stage. Ques (1) it appears that IE and OE are both embedded in Windows XP program? That would explain my first attempt of uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook (as part of Office program) was not successful, before contacting you. (2) Don't remember - what are the basic differences in features between Outlook and Outlook Express; should I consider just going back to Outlook? (3) I just upgraded to IE7 a few days ago (OE problem started weeks before that), but the OE repair /reinstall process mentions IE6 and not IE7; will this cause unkown repair problems and I need to uninstall IE7 before beginning? 1: OE6 is a part of IE6, and both are part of you OS.
2: Differences between Outlook Express and MS Outlook: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/...tlookvsoe.mspx And: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;257824 But this doesn't solve your problems. 3: Yes. Uninstall IE7 before doing the R&R. I know it looks scary, but it is much like reinstalling your OS, but without losing anything. I posted this fix many times and was still a little worried the first time I had to do it for a friend, but it went well. Print out the KB article so you have it handy while you do the R&R. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Question Man" wrote in message ...
