Default "Normal does not exist" error message

Installed office xp professional '03 - try to open a file in Word and error
message is "normal does not exist". What does this mean and how can it be
corrected so that I am able to open files in Word and other programs?

Default

It wants to open the "normal" blank office DOT file. Which
is either missing or mapped to a different place.
If you have a Word Doc aready on the computer, you should
be able to open it and go to -tools-options-file locations
and look where your templates are directed. Default
location (Depending on your OS WNNT\Profiles\(your
username)\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
You should have a "Normal.dot" file there.
If not do a search for it, and put it in this location.Or
map to it where it is depending on your organization.
