Default Different mail folders in Outlook

Hi,
This is regarding Outlook 2003.
I have installed a Windows 2003 Server SBS which has Exchange integrated
into it.
I am not, however, using Exchange for the emails, I am still using the web
hosting company (POP3) and have setup Outlook on the client PC as such.
Now, in my Outlook I can see a folder "Mailbox - My Name" with all the
usual subfolders (Drafts, Inbox, ...) and another called "Personal Folders"
with the same subfolders. Since I am not using Exchange for my emails, why do
I have the "Mail - My Name"? Isn't there supposed to be just the "Personal
Folders" which corresponds to POP emails?
There are some emails in "Mail - My Name"'s inbox but most in Personal
Folder's inbox. All emails sent to the same email address!!

Same thing in the "Favorite Folders" section of the pane:
Inbox in Personal Folders
Unread email in Personal Folder
Sent Items in Personal Folder
Inbox
Unread email
For Follow up
Sent Items

Thank you in advance.

Because you have the Exchange service on the server enabled and you have the
Exchange service enabled on Outlook.

If you really don't want to use Exchange you could disable it -- you could
simply remove the Exchange service from Outlook (Tools | E-mail Accounts |
View or Change...) -- or you can also have the Exchange service disabled on
your server.

Default Different mail folders in Outlook

Hi Ben,
thanks for your answer. I did have MS Exchange listed in Outlook and I
removed it. That action removed the "Mail - My Name' folder from Outlook.
I don;t understand why emails were being sent to "Mail - My Name' folder.
Aren't POP emails supposed to go to the Personal Folder?
The MX record for this domain points to the hosting company's mail server
and not the Exchange server.
Also, it seems I did have some emails that had ended up in the Inbox under
'Mail - My Name'. How can I get them into the inbox of Personal Folder, now
that the Mail folder is removed?

Thanks again.

why not keep the exchange account and have the mail delivered to it, instead
of a pst? mail downloaded via the pop account will be sent using the pop
account but you'll have it stored in the exchange mailbox and accessible
from anywhere.

Not necessarily. If Exchange was enabled and you had your delivery location
set to the Exchange mailbox, then the incoming POP mail would also be placed
in the Exchange mailbox.

Add the mailbox back into your profile, move the messages, and remove it
again.

Thanks for the reply.
Do I have to create a POP connector in Exchange? Just wondering how to
accomplish this.
If you could tell me how to set this up I really appreciate it.

Thanks.

No. You can just leave it the way it was - with the Exchange service in
your profile and the Mailbox as your default delivery location. You can
have your workstation download the mail via POP and store it on the server.

Do you have your own domain name? Do you have a static IP address for your
Internet connection?

To send mail to the internet, you need to set up the SMTP server portion on
exchange. If you have an always on connection, this works great and it can
send it to your ISP's smtp server as a 'smart host', if the ISP doesn't
allow direct sending.

If you want to collect pop mail, you need to set up the POP3 connector in
Exchange to collect the mail.
