reducing number of markers in XY scatter chart

Default reducing number of markers in XY scatter chart

Is there a way to reduce the number of markers that are
displayed in a XY scatter chart? I have data that is
very closely spaced and when I turn on markers it looks
like a fat line rather than discrete markers. Thanks.
