Default Is there a file that can be deleted and recreated to stop Word from crashing?

I was told there is a file that can be deleted, that is recreated when you restart Word will recreate itself, and will stop word from crashing. It was suggested that it has an ?.opt? extension? This is not Normal.dot. It is some file that is basic to the actual application. I've done the research I can, and haven't found anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Besides Normal.dot, the other culprit in crashes and other problems is a
registry value (not a file), the Data key. See

troubleshooting procedures we know.
