Default In table, add column to the right, but then can't size it

In a Word 2007 table, I have my page layout set to Landscape
Orientation for printing. I want to add a narrow new column on the
right. I select the current right-most column, then right-click and
choose Insert, then Insert Columns to the Right.

However, the column Word adds takes up all remaining horizontal space
on the page, past even the right margin of the page. The right border
of the table (and of that new column) is now not visible, so I can't
get to it in order to grab its sizing handles to decrease the width of
that added column. I can't see the right border of the table to size
it.

I tried changing the page margins but at any margin settings the right
border of the table is out of visibility, and I can't scroll right to
get to it.

Any advice? Thanks much.

Place the insertion point in the table. On the Table Tools Layout tab, click
AutoFit, and then click AutoFit Window. Then you should see all columns and
resize as desired.

Other alternatives are to set the table width to 100% or to switch to
Normal/Draft view, in which the entire table can be seen.

Using Normal (Draft) view is a clever trick (which I hadn't thought about).

Thanks. After much hunting around in Help, I still can't figure out
how to set the table width to 100%. Can someone help?

Open the Table Properties dialog (there's a button for it in the Table group
of the contextual Table Tools | Layout tab, but you should also be able to
right-click anywhere in the table and find that on the context menu;
unfortunately, you can no longer get to it by double-clicking the table
handle).

On the Table tab of the dialog, check the box for "Preferred width," set
"Measure in" to "Percent," and enter 100%.
