Problem using colors to organize inbox e-mail
Here's the problem: when I use colors to organize e-mail from certain senders
in the Inbox located in the Personal Folders, it doesn't won't save the settings. I go to Tools/Organize/Using Colors and set it so that all e-mail from a particular sender will be in a unique color. It colors all the e-mail in the folder. But as soon as I navigate away from the Inbox folder, the Auto Formatting rule disappears. It doesn't save any of the changes I make. I have 2 color rules which persist, but any new color rules I add are never saved. What is with that? This problem only occurs with the Inbox in Personal Folders. When I use colors in IMAP inboxes, there is no problem. I am using Outlook 2007 and Vista. I have set up OL to folder sync with my IMAP e-mail accounts. OL is not good with IMAP e-mail. OL cannot find e-mail under the Activities of senders my Contacts unless the e-mail is in the Inbox of the Personal Folders. Of course sync'ed e-mails for IMAP accounts have their own folders and do not appear in the Personal Folders. So as a workaround to enable me to find e-mails from individual contacts I set up a Rule to copy incoming e-mail in the IMAP folder to the Personal Folder Inbox. |

The rules are actually views, not true rules, so when the view is changed
the 'rules' are changed too. For best results, make a custom view and apply the organizer colors to it, not the the default messages view. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com. Thanks for the help. That does not seem to be it. Creating a custom view
doesn't make any difference. The new "rules" which apply colors to additional e-mail senders just disappear off the automatic formatting list after I switch to another folder. There are 2 exisiting "rules" for coloring certain senders. If I attempt to alter either one, it reverts back to the previous setting as soon as I change folders. It's as if the settings for the view are locked and cannot be changed.
