Word doesn't do conditional formatting, but you can embed an Excel sheet in
Word. -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA "Under Pressure" Under wrote in message ... I can do a mail-merge but I need to be able to colour the background of cells according to the values placed in them. No problems in Excel, but Word? |

how to conditional format in a Word table
Hi 'Under Pressure',
If the values you're referring to are numbers, you could use a numeric picture switch to change the colours and other attributes of the fonts, and the background colours for the values themselves. Not what you're asking for, but it might suit your needs. To see how, check out my Word Field Maths 'tutorial', at: http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/show...?Number=365442 or http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm#Third_party In particular, look at the item titled 'Formatting Numeric Field Results' Cheers -- macropod [MVP - Microsoft Word] ------------------------- "Under Pressure" Under wrote in message ... how to conditional format in a Word table
Suzanne
I kind of figured this out. Thanks anyway. However, I've decided to type my template that was in Word into a spreadsheet and then write a Macro to put the data from my spreadsheet into this spreadsheet template. Wish me luck!! Thanks macropod
Didn't enjoy working with switches - not reall a Word specialist. However, I am going to type my Word template out into a spreadsheet and then write a macro to copy the data from the spreadsheet into this template. It works on a simple test that I did - but whether it works on 300 lines of data remains to be seen. You can use a mail merge to put data from Excel into a Word table.
