No. They are part of the structure of the Word document. If the recipient
wants to see them that's a matter for him/her. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP Web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site www.mvps.org/word Chris wrote: is there a way to permanently delete the paragraph markers? i.e., if i email a document to someone and don't want them to see these markers, even if they click the show/hide button on their computer? thanks. -----Original Message----- Press Ctrl+* or click the Show/Hide ¶ button on the Standard toolbar. Hi Chris
No, you can't delete them. Word doesn't work without them. Further, some people *want* to see them, as explained in the article Suzanne cited -- if you mess with their view of the document, they'll come after you with a sharp pencil! :-) -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Chris wrote: is there a way to permanently delete the paragraph markers? i.e., if i email a document to someone and don't want them to see these markers, even if they click the show/hide button on their computer? thanks. -----Original Message----- Press Ctrl+* or click the Show/Hide ¶ button on the Standard toolbar. Paragraph
As Graham and Jay have said, you can't prevent users from seeing nonprinting
characters if that is their choice--*unless* you send your document as a PDF. But knowing that the recipient may have nonprinting characters displayed should be an incentive to you to include as few as possible. By that I mean that you should never press Enter twice to put a "blank line" between paragraphs (use Space Before/After instead), never press Tab more than once to get to a tab stop (always set custom tab stops exactly where they are needed), remove all excess spaces at the ends of paragraphs and between sentences, etc. -- Suzanne S.
