Default Powerpoint - "Error it can't correct"

I keep getting the following
"Powerpoint found an error it can't correct, save your
presentations, quit and then restart powerpoint".
Have done this but error still occurs,

If try to open an existing presentation through explorer I
can see the document by preview, but when trying to open
it the above error occurs.

Any ideas on how to get out of this??

Many thanks
