I extract embedded audio from presentations by doing a SAVE FOR WEB. This
creates a folder with all of the resource files (images, audio files, etc).

Thanks Troy,
I opened PP, then opened the file, then went to file\save as web page. It
saved it as a web page that opens with pp so I'm back where I
started...obviously I know nothing about PP. My friend sent me the slide and
I want the sound byte out of it. The help file says to click on the sound
icon within the slide but I do not see an icon at all.

Do a SAVE AS (not the Save As Web Page). In the Save As window choose WEB
PAGE, not the Single Web Page and that should give you the individual
folders and resource elements needed.
