Default Connecting shapes

I have 2 text boxes I want to connect to each other with a pipeline shape.
When I move the mouse over the points on the text box there are no connection
points on the text box shape. What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. The text boxes are, I suppose, really just that, text boxes,
not designed to be connected to anything. But you can add your own
connection points if you want to, easy to do with the built-in
connection point tool or via the shapesheet.
Or use a shape that already has connection points available, e.g. the
Rectangle shapes from the Basic Shapes stencil. This shape has 5
connection points pre-defined and you add text by double-clicking it.
Border and fill styles can both be changed via the standard menus.
