Outlook 2003 - remove PST files
I am running Outlook 2003 with Server 2003 R2.
I need to stop my users from creating PST files. Currently I have GPO policy settings to disable ID #'s 1886, 5575, 5576 and 7091. These work great. However, while in Outlook I change to the Folder List view and I see a link for 'data file managment'. When I click this link I am able to create PST files. Is there any way to get rid of this link? Or, am I going about this all wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Christian |

Outlook 2003 - remove PST files
Why not use the DisablePST registry key setting?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\ Outlook\ I'm not sure if this is exposed in the GPO templates for Outlook 2003 as well, but it is for sure for Outlook 2007. -- Robert Sparnaaij [MVP-Outlook] Coauthor, Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.howto-outlook.com/ Outlook FAQ, HowTo, Downloads, Add-Ins and more http://www.msoutlook.info/ Real World Questions, Real World Answers ----- "Christian" wrote in message ... Outlook 2003 - remove PST files
Thanks for the info. I did find articles on this and it does work. I was
able to push this registry value out via group policy. I was just looking for a different way, meaning not have to push out a registry value change. thanks! -c "Roady [MVP]" wrote: Why not use the DisablePST registry key setting? Outlook 2003 - remove PST files
Hi both,
I've a very similar problem but in my case is in Outlook 2007. Let me explain: We've got mixed environmente with most users running Outlook 2003 while others are being migrated to Outlook 2007 (mainly IT Staff and VIPS). We also want our users to stop creating new PST's but until email archiving becomes fully available to all of our users, we want them to keep on accessing their existing PST's files. Using DiablePST key, value = 1, in Outlook 2003 works fine for us, as users are unable to create new files but can open existing ones. Good. When applying this very same setting in Outlook 2007, it seems MS has changed its behaviour as now users are unable to both create and open PST files... We've tried several varians with no much success honestly... Any ideas on how to deal with what we want? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks! Outlook 2003 - remove PST files
You're welcome! :-)
Note that pretty much all GPO settings are registry setting changes as well so I'm not sure if I understand your last comment. -- Robert Sparnaaij [MVP-Outlook] Coauthor, Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.howto-outlook.com/ Outlook FAQ, HowTo, Downloads, Add-Ins and more http://www.msoutlook.info/ Real World Questions, Real World Answers ----- "Christian" wrote in message news Thanks for the info. Outlook 2003 - remove PST files
These settings are directly exposed in the GPO settings. You can disable the
use of pst-files at several levels (added by end-users or special services), disallow new content to be added or disallow them them to make any changes to the mail profile. That should allow you to achieve your goal I think. -- Robert Sparnaaij [MVP-Outlook] Coauthor, Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.howto-outlook.com/ Outlook FAQ, HowTo, Downloads, Add-Ins and more http://www.msoutlook.info/ Real World Questions, Real World Answers ----- "maizqui" wrote in message news Hi both, I've a very similar problem but in my case is in Outlook 2007.
