Default align text in middle of text box

Hi, I'm using Word 2000 on Windows 2000.

I have a set of 1.5" tall text boxes. Some of the boxes contain a few
lines of text and others only have one line of text. I want the text to
appear in the middle of each of the text boxes instead of at the top.

The online help tells me that I can do this by using the text align box
on the Formatting toolbar, but I can't see that button on the toolbar.

I've looked in the Customize area for the formatting toolbar, but I
could only find text-alignment features under the Drawing toolbar. (And
when I select a text box, the align/middle feature is greyed out on the
drawing toolbar.)

So, how can I align the text to appear in the middle of a text box?

Barbara,

I think the best option here is to put the text in a table
cell size and align to the text box.

Select one of the text boxes.

Set the internal text margin to 0" all the way around.
(Right clickFormat Text BoxText Box)

Insert a single-cell, borderless table and size it to the
text box.

Vertically center text in the cell.

You might won't to create an autotext entry for this
textbox/table combination and use for your other textboxes.
