Access 2007
I have designed a data Base in Access 2003. It is now being used on a
machine that runs Access 2007. Do I need to convert the file to the Access 2007 format for faster retrieval or can I can continue to use the MDB file? Are there any implications in leaving the file format (MDB) as is? Many thanks for any help |

Many thanks for any help It should be ok. however, I do not recommend allowing users to frequent switch the version access they use on the file... In other words, if you have 3-4 computers, and need to share that data, then I suggest give the 2003 users a 2003 front end, and the 2007 users a 2007 front end. When you do this, then you can smoothly run and "mix" different versions of ms-access. In this case I recommend you split the database. This concept is explained he http://www.members.shaw.ca/AlbertKal...plit/index.htm Are there any implications in leaving the file format (MDB) as is? This generally means you not be able to use some of the new features. So, if development and modifications are to continue on this database, then yes, I do suggest you convert. However, you can leave it in 2003 format if you wish and it should be ok. -- Albert D. Kallal (Access MVP) Edmonton, Alberta Canada |

Access 2007
I'm new to discussion groups and don't know if this will go to Roger or Albert
Anyway - I created a database in A2003 about 5 ueatrs ago. followed instructions in my new (2 days) office 2007 Access - which gave two options first it said that 2003 version should work (it doesn't) alternatively it says to convert db to 2007 format - did that - opened it (nothing happens) so far no success just following MS instructions/help etc. The database has a couple of errors - due to unfinished work (fields in reports requiring dates to be fed in) - they do not prevent the db working in 2003 version on the old computer Any ideas -- Thanks for any help cheers Pete "Albert D. Access 2007
Make sure you have set up a trusted folder and then put your database in that
location. "... should work (it doesn't)..." is not a helpful diagnostic message. Do you get error messages? Does the database fail to open at all? You will need to search for instructions (in help or on the net) on setting up a trusted folder. I can't help you with that as I don't have access to Access 2007 on this computer.
