office 2007 pro
Do I need to uninstall a previous version of office ( XP Pro?) before
installing 2007? I have a full version, not an upgrade. |

You don't *have* to but you can only run one version of Outlook at a time.
If you opt for Outlook 2002, you won't be able to send emails from the various programs. You may want to unintall Office XP so that you only have one product key to deal with. Plus you'll save hard drive space. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] Tech Editor for "Microsoft Publisher 2007 For Dummies" "frank" wrote in message ... If you have the full retail version then yes. But back up everything that you need to save (data, etc) before doing the latter -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged. I believe you are thinking of the OEM version that ships with new computers,
though I haven't tried one of those. Truth be known, MS has changed their sales methods rather substantially and I haven't kept up on how they all work. A true, store-bought retail copy of Office 2007 (not OEM!) will install over any version of Office from Office 2000 on. (I'm not sure about 97/98 or earlier.) This is basic Microsoft policy. In fact, in the case of Office 2007, you have a choice of keeping the older version and running the two versions side by side (noting the Outlook issue pointed out by JoAnn). I just tested, so I can safely say that the *retail* version of Office 2007 behaves as expected. Guess I should add there are several possible issues you may encounter when upgrading from a trial version of Office 2007 to paid version. Here's a rough collection of pertinent articles. http://support.microsoft.com/search/... l+2007&mode=r -- Ronin "Peter Foldes" wrote in message ... frank If you have the full retail version then yes. Since the OP mentioned that he has Office XP Pro installed at present that made me understand that he has a Retail Full version of Office 2007 that he wants to install. I am a firm believer in a complete clean install of any full Retail product. ... Ronin Since the OP mentioned that he has Office XP Pro installed at present that made me understand that he has a Retail Full version of Office 2007 that he wants to install. What makes you think that? There are plenty of OEM copies of Office 2007 for sale out there. Which is why I paused to correct your statements. Unless I read your original wrong, your statement *only* applies to OEM copies, not full retail copies. OP asked if the previous installation has to be uninstalled prior to upgrading. Give the conditions provided, the tentative answer, one that assumes that the installation media is "Full Retail", is "No.", just as I stated previously. However, if the installation media is "OEM", then the answer is probably "Yes." I don't have an OEM copy, so I can't say for sure. I read your response to say, "Yes, you must uninstall the previous installation prior to installing." That simply isn't true with regard to full retail copies. I am a firm believer in a complete clean install of any full Retail product. Always found that by Upgrading anything you always lose something in the translation (install) We're in total agreement as to our opinions, though I can bend to conditions like urgency and complexities involved in restructuring the new installation to match the previous. You know, settings, connections to devices, macros, that mess of customizations that make all installations of Office and other software unique from any other installations, more and more so as they are used. I've had a couple of projects involving all or nearly all Office apps, plus several other apps, all open at once, or being called by script, etc., all set up in very unique ways that allowed me to move smoothly from one to the other, or for the purposes of automation. If I'd been told that I must immediately upgrade any of the apps, for whatever imaginary reason, I would back up the machine and do it. I most certainly would not have delayed an extra day or two (or three or four...) to get back into the saddle. I'd risk the upgrade and clean up the system later. -- Ronin "Ronin" NoIDatNoDomain.Nil wrote in message ...
