Problem with Auto fill
I am using Excel 2003 and W XP.
I have the height of my rows at 12.75. Some rows are larger because data in a cell on those rows needs 2 lines. When I am entering data in a row that is only 12.75 high and I type a couple of characters Auto Fill kicks in and shows me the entire contents for the cell. I then hit Enter and Auto Fill completes. The problem is that even though the data is only 1 line in length the height of the row is doubled to 25.5. I do not want this to happen, how can I stop it? This also happens if the data I want is in the cell above mine and that cell is only 12.75 high and I do a drag and drop the height of my row is doubled to 12.75. Thanks for any and all help. |

Problem with Auto fill
That is not AutoFill.........it is AutoComplete.
If you don't want the rows to increase in height, turn off Autofit by giving the row a defined height. Also disable "wrap text" for the cells. Gord, Thanks for the reply. Part of my problem is that some rows do contain cells that require more than 1 line. I should say that I am using both autofill and auto complete. If I am filling out a row that is only one line in height the using of either auto fill or auto complete and the data I am copying is only 1 line in height it causes my row to double in height. So i am still in trouble. |

Problem with Auto fill
You stated
When *I am entering data in a row that is only 12.75 high and I type a couple of characters Auto Fill kicks in and shows me the entire contents for the cell. That is NOT autofill.........is autocomplete. If your rows are doubling in height with only a small amount of text autocompleted I would say you have something like a line-feed or extra trailing spaces in the original data above.
