Can't scale picture objects

When I use paste special and paste a copied excel chart as
a picture, I am unable scale the picture using format picture--size.
Entering values into the height or width boxes causes the image to disappear.
I did not have this problem with powerpoint 2000.

So are you using version 2002 or 2003 now?

Also, are you sure its disappeared, or perhaps it's there but just not
showing up... To test, try clicking off the edge of the slide so that
nothing's selected, then hit your Tab key on your keyboard. Does anything
resembling the picture's new size show up as selected as you tab through the
objects?

If so, try changing hardware acceleration.

The picture is still on the slide, but its size is reduced to 1% of the original scale, regardless of the scale factors I enter for height or width. I also have tried clicking Reset before changing the scaling factors. After doing so, the picture will not scale at all. I'm using Office 2003 running on Window XP Professional.
